Severe Weather Preparedness Week is an opportunity to become weather ready
As spring approaches, it’s important to be prepared for severe weather that affects our region, including tornadoes, damaging winds, hail and flash flooding.
The National Weather Service – Kansas City, along with the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency and the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, are encouraging preparedness during Severe Weather Preparedness Week on March 1-5.
Each day focuses on a unique severe weather safety topic. The National Weather Service encourages everyone to practice what you would do if the event was real. Daily topics include:
- Monday – Preparedness and receiving weather information
- Tuesday – Tornado safety
NOTE: Statewide tornado drills are scheduled for 10 a.m. in Missouri and Kansas. - Wednesday – Lightning safety
- Thursday – Hail and wind safety
- Friday – Flood safety
