National Preparedness Month is an observance each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. This year, FEMA’s Ready Campaign focuses on protecting your lasting legacy with preparedness.
The life you’ve built is worth protecting. That’s why it’s important you’re prepared. Do you have a plan for yourself, your pets, and your family?
The easiest way you can be prepared is by building an emergency kit that includes:
- Non-perishable food and water that can last several days.
- Flashlights, radios & extra batteries.
- First aid kit.
Also consider the needs of children, pets, older adults, and those with disabilities.
Kit maintenance is also critical. You should review the contents of your kit each year to replace expired or damaged items as needed and update your kit as your family’s needs change.
