COVID-19 resources available to the media

Members of the media covering COVID-19 issues in the nine-county Kansas City region are encouraged to use the following resources available at PrepareMetroKC.org.

  • Kansas City Region COVID-19 Data Hub: The data hub compiles data from several sources to provide a best estimate of the COVID-19 situation in the Kansas City region. The homepage of the hub was recently revised to better display and explain regional COVID-19 data, including new cases, deaths and hospitalizations, and it will continue to be improved upon. Visit the data hub to see the latest provisional data and long-term trend lines: https://preparemetrokc.org/covid19/data/

  • Greater Kansas City COVID-19 Testing Calendar: The testing calendar compiles information from multiple agencies and organizations in the region so residents can easily find a testing site near them. Guidance about minimum age, cost and pre-registration for each testing location is included when possible. Visit the Greater Kansas City COVID-19 Testing Calendar at https://preparemetrokc.org/testing

Public health experts recommend individuals with no symptoms get tested 5 to 7 days after exposure. Anyone with symptoms should get tested as soon as possible.

Members of the media interested in displaying testing location information on a crawl or online are asked to contact Kristin Johnson-Waggoner at kjohnsonwaggoner@marc.org or 816-701-8219.

PrepareMetroKC.org is the region’s resource for emergency planning. The site was developed by the Metropolitan Emergency Managers Committee to help spread awareness and promote disaster preparation and response in the greater Kansas City region.
